Dollar Tree To Raise Base Prices to $1.25

Faced with the rising cost of goods and freight, discount retailer Dollar Tree Inc (Nasdaq: DLTR) plans to increase its baseline price from $1.00 to $1.25.

On Tuesday, the Chesapeake, Virginia-based chain said it has begun marking up merchandise at its 8,000 US stores, the latest sign that higher manufacturing and transportation costs are trickling down to consumers.


Dollar Tree To Open 600 New Stores This Year; Beats Earnings Estimates But Misses on Revenue

During a time when many retail chains are shuttering locations, Dollar Tree said it plans to open 600 new stores this year in response to continued demand for discount shopping amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, the company said 400 of the new stores will be Dollar Tree stores, and 200 of the locations will be Family Dollar stores.

Dollar General Corp reported better-than-expected quarterly results on Thursday, as the discount retailer benefited from higher demand for cheaper groceries and household items during the coronavirus-induced economic downturn.

High unemployment and falling household income this year due to the COVID-19 crisis have boosted demand for lower-priced cereals, vegetables and other essentials, lifting sales at dollar stores.

The strong demand also carried through to the current quarter, with Dollar General reporting same-store sales growth of about 14% for the period between Oct. 31 and Dec.1.

Dollar Tree Inc reported better-than-expected quarterly results on Tuesday, as the discount store operator benefited from robust demand for cheaper home decor, kitchenware and clothing during a coronavirus-induced economic downturn.

The company also said it had made a good start to its holiday quarter, with same-store sales at both its labels tracking above their third-quarter levels, sending its shares 12% higher.

Dollar Tree Inc said on Monday it planned to hire more than 25,000 workers at its stores and distribution centers this holiday season, as it prepares for what is typically a period of higher sales.
